Public Art News
La Crosse (Wisconsin) Convention Center. We’re fresh off the road from installing a large mixed-media mosaic mural in La Crosse. We were selected from a national art call for the Center’s first commissioned work.
The mural beautifies the Center’s new addition by replicating the Coulee Region’s gorgeous geography. We also wanted to educate viewers that La Crosse is the original ancestral land of the Ho-Chunk people. We invited artist/educator Josie Lee, a member of Wisconsin’s Ho-Chunk Nation, to design the heron’s wings – the beautiful focus of the mural – in a traditional design. The wall didactic provides an honest, educational narrative written by Stacia and Jose about the Ho Chunk’s resilience.

Our son, Simon, a college art student, assisted with the install. We couldn’t have done it without his muscle and creative problem solving.
Stacia lectured on public art for University of Wisconsin, La Crosse, students enrolled in its first public art course. Thank you, Professor Rooney and Professor Williams for orchestrating!
New Project Announcement
Washington, D.C., Capitol Hill Montessori School. We have our first public art mosaic on the East Coast. It’s a 40-foot-long exterior wall, which will incorporate words provided by sixth-graders who answered, “When I grow up, I want to be a ...” The commission also included designing an in-ground metal medallion. We got that installed before the first freeze last fall.
The tile mosaic begins with a child blowing a dandelion whose seeds turn into words.
Here's the entire wall, at 40 feet long x 3 feet high.
The 42-inch bronze medallion features Dr. Maria Montessori.
Residential Installation
Private (Secret) Spa. The pandemic has made us all rethink our home sanctuaries and self-care. Our mosaic inset (to be surrounded by lux black tile) will be the focal point of a very private, in-home spa, complete with copper soaking tub – all hidden behind a sliding bookcase! How cool is that? It was a delight to work with this uniquely creative family.
The all-glass mosaic scrolls across two walls in an open shower area adjacent to a heavenly soaking tub.

This piece was recently juried into “Artist Showcase 2022,” alongside 70+ other amazing Minneapolis artists. The piece is on view at the contemporary Brookview Golden Valley Center through February.

• ABC-TV’s affiliate in La Crosse ran this story on our La Crosse mosaic, including a brief interview with Stacia. “La Crosse Local” also did a longer podcast interview with Stacia that goes deeper into her philosophy about creating public art – the responsibilities and privilege.
