Feature Project: “Wisconsin Waters” Floor Mosaic

JUST INSTALLED: North Lakeland Discovery Center in Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin. We took a beautiful trip to the snowy woods to install a mosaic floor inset – our first – for this newly expanded public nature center. We worked with the Center’s naturalists to make sure we got the native animal and plant species correct. Custom artwork by several artisans will make this space come to life when it opens this spring. Watch our final video and see more project photos.

The mosaic floor medallion is six feet in diameter and made from commercial floor tile.

Before mortaring, we did a dry fit to ensure measurements were correct.

Yes, Stacia grouts on her birthday, too.

The Center will include fantastic wall and ceiling murals by Joan Christgau of Creative Wallternatives.

Thank you, North Lakeland Discovery Center!

Public Art News

WE WON IN WYOMING: We’re super honored to have been selected from 120 applicants to create custom public art for the Teton County/Jackson Recreation Center Expansion Project. We’ll install next year. Here’s the announcement in the Buckrail Newspaper

DESIGN APPROVED: Old Donation Episcopal Church, Virginia Beach, Virginia. We’ve been commissioned by this contemporary church to create a significant mosaic mural spanning two walls. The design tells a moving story of the worship community’s evolution and aspirations. We credit the church’s Art Committee for a wonderfully collaborative process to get us to the final design. Now the work begins!

The mosaic will be mixed-media and include shells sourced from Virginia Beach.

This sample board (for the client to see and approve) shows the spectrum of colors and materials we'll be using.

“Red Lighthouse” finds its healing-arts home. We’re thrilled that Stacia's wooden mosaic will soon be part of a Duluth hospital’s major expansion overlooking Lake Superior. The piece features both upcycled wood (the lighthouse is from a red chair’s arm rest) and new wood that Stacia deconstructs and pieces together. See more of her available work.

In the News

• Voyage Minnesota recently invited Stacia to write about herself and work. If you want to know how she got started in mosaics, have at it!

The interview was a good motivator to (finally) update the headshot.

• Lake Minnetonka Magazine included a nice story about the custom mosaic backsplash insert we recently make for a charming lake home/kitchen make-over.

"St. Alban's Bay," 3' x 2' glass and ceramic tile mosaic backsplash.
