Feature Project: Worship Space in Virginia

FABRICATION IN PROGRESS: We’re well into creating a vibrant, 40-foot-long story mosaic for an East Coast church. This private commission in glass and ceramic tile will flow across two walls. Our client is thrilled with the mosaic’s progress; we’re excited with our new, contemporary way of depicting people in the mosaic medium.

The foreground is imagery meaningful to the Episcopal faith. The background is ocean water, fish and Virginia Beach shells.

MOSAIC & PAINT COLLABORATION: Teaming up with a professional muralist (painter) has been on our wish list forever. We finally got our chance with Kada Goalen of Kada Creative. She won a large public art commission that includes our mosaic accents at the I-35W & Lake Street bus rapid transit station.

We just finished installing over 100 mini-mosaic "feathers" in glass tile and mirror that will highlight Kada’s upcoming bird murals on four massive concrete pillars. The mural-mosaic will look fantastic when finished.

This brief on-site video shows how our mosaics will integrate with Kada’s painted bird murals.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & DESIGN RESEARCH: As we noted in our spring newsletter, we recently won a national public art call through Jackson Hole Public Art. Stacia flew to Jackson in May to teach community mosaic classes, lead design feedback sessions and research the beautiful Teton Mountains firsthand. It was a very productive trip. Here are some recap photos:

"Peaceful Pond" is featured in the June/July issue of Healthcare Design Magazine. Our mosaic appears in HCD’s "10 New Artwork and Wayfinding Products" special section. The piece – with a mosaicked, organic edge – was commissioned through an art consultant for a major Twin Cities hospital last year.
